Happy New Year!

The crackers have been pulled, decorations taken down and we’re all looking forward to a new year ahead after hopefully lots of lovely Christmas celebrations!

Sometimes, especially if you have a busy life (everyone seems to these days!) Christmas is a time to take stock. We spend time with family we don’t always see and we are often reminded of how fortunate we are. We think of those no longer with us.

The new year is the perfect time to get on with all those things that we put off until ‘after Christmas’. Rebecca Reid at Illuminate Legal is here to help you get on the right track by setting up Wills or Lasting Powers of Attorney that are either out of date or have never been ‘gotten around to’ in the midst of a ‘full-on’ life.

Rebecca always advises being practical in our plans for the future and thinking about what those near and dear to us may need help with if we are no longer here or unable to make decisions for ourselves.

A few pointers to get you started when reviewing your personal matters should assist:-

  1. Chat to your family/partner about any plans you already have in place. Would now be a good time to review your Will? Has the family changed? Have children/grandchildren come along since you last did a new Will?
  2. If you don’t have a Will, would now be the right time to consider one to protect your family (and your assets) in the event of death?
  3. What would happen if you lost mental capacity? Do you have a family member you are concerned about? Would the new year be an ideal time to consider a Lasting Power of Attorney, to give everyone peace of mind if you needed someone to handle your property, finances or health?

Please contact Rebecca if you wish to discuss Wills and Lasting Powers of Attorney. She is happy to visit you at your home to make the process as easy as possible and can offer evening appointments where necessary.
